Nitza Mendoza, an award-winning chef from Florida, will demonstrate her skills as the featured celebrity chef at Edesia, a benefit event in Palisade combining fine food and drink.
“We are delighted to have Nitza bring her imagination and skills to Edesia. Our guests are in for a real treat with her approach to food.
She has so much talent and is very personable,” said Marcelo Marino, executive chef at the Wine Country Inn.
Edesia is set for March 30 at the Wine Country Inn, located at 777 Grande River Drive. The event will include a new VIP luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well as the main event, scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m.
Tickets to the VIP luncheon sell for $125 each and include admission to the main event. Tickets to the main event sell for $75 each. For tickets or more information, visit the website at www.edesiapalisade.com.
Proceeds from Edesia benefit Marillac Clinic, which provides health care services to uninsured Mesa County residents with low and moderate incomes. Last year, the event raised $20,000.
A native of Peru, Mendoza graduated from Le Cordon Blue College in Miami and currently works as executive chef at the Open Stage Club in Coral Cables. She previously worked at the Bal Harbour, Key Biscayne, Ritz Carlton and St. Regis. She won a bronze medal in the American Culinary Federation Best Chef of the Americas competition.
While she’s trained in classical French techniques, Mendoza said she’s passionate about fusion as well as using local fare in her cooking.
“The essence of my cuisine is to allow the natural flavors of food to express themselves.”
Named for the Roman goddess of fine food and drink, Edesia pairs gourmet foods with fine wines and spirits. The event also features hourly culinary demonstrations.
