Bakery plans benefit sale for family of employee

A Grand Junction business will donate the proceeds from bakery sales to benefit the family of an employee who died following a motorcycle accident.

Great Harvest Bread Co. has scheduled the event for April 4 to benefit the family of Brenna Martinez.

“This is such a difficult time for all us. She pretty much ran the whole bakery. She knew how to do everything and made the best darn oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. She served with a quiet confidence that resonated with our customers,” said Heidi Ragland, owner of Great Harvest Bread Co. in Grand Junction.

The benefit sale will feature a variety of breads as well as sandwiches and treats. French toast will be served form 7 to 11 a.m. Sandwiches will be available for lunch.

For Easter, Great Harvest Bread Co. also will offer handcrafted honey whole wheat Easter bunnies.

“Brenna used to make homemade gifts for everyone in the bakery around the holidays,” Ragland said. “She would make her own beef jerky and soap for everyone at the holidays. She would also knit headbands and hats for her co-workers.”

Great Harvest Bread Co. is located at 2464 U.S. Highway 6 & 50, No. 130, next to TJ Maxx. For more information, visit www.GHGrandJunction.com.
