Benefit tournament part of campaign to urge travelers to dodge high fares

A company that specializes in low-cost travel between smaller communities and leisure destinations has joined in efforts to host a benefit dodgeball tournament in Grand Junction as part of a marketing campaign to urge travelers to dodge high fares.

Allegiant Travel Co., the National Dodgeball League and Grand Junction Regional Airport will host a science fiction-themed dodgeball tournament set for

9 a.m. July 20 at the Bookcliff Activity Center, 540.5 29 1/4 Road.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. A prize also will be awarded to the best-dressed team.

Teams will consist of six to 10 players. Each player must be at least 18 years old. Teams must have a minimum of two males and two females. The registration deadline July 13. The $100 entry fee will be donated to United Way of Mesa County.

“We are thrilled to partner with Allegiant and the National Dodgeball League to host this unique event. This tournament gives our community an opportunity to come together and celebrate low fares and new destinations Allegiant has brought to Grand Junction,” said Amy Jordan, deputy director of administration at the Grand Junction Regional Airport.

In addition to the dodgeball tournament, Allegiant will give away a round-trip ticket each week through August in a sweepstakes in which entrants describe what they’d dodge during a free vacation.

Allegiant Travel and its subsidiary, Allegiant Air, offer all-jet air travel as well as such travel-related products as hotel rooms, rental cars and attraction tickets. From Grand Junction, Allegiant offers air service to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
