Chamber board endorses three Republican candidates

The board of directors of a Grand Junction business group has endorsed three Republican candidates in the upcoming election.

The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has endorsed Steve Acquafresca in his bid for a second term on the Mesa County Commission.

The board also endorsed Steve King, a state representative running for a seat in the Colorado Senate in District 7, as well as Scott Tipton, a state representative from Cortez running for the U.S. House of Representatives from the Third District.

Acquafresca faces a challenge from Libertarian Steve Saint. King is running against Democrat Claudette Konola. Tipton is challenging U.S. Rep. John Salazar, a Democrat seeking his fourth term in the House.

The chamber board based its endorsements on the recommendations of a chamber committee that interviews candidates to determine their positions on issues related to business, the chamber legislative platform and the candidates’ own general platforms.
