Work has begun on the 400 Block Main Street Project, a redesign the Downtown Development Authority and City of Grand Junction say will transform the underutilized space of the former splash-pad site into a vibrant downtown destination for play, gathering and connection.
The new design features two children’s play areas spanning the northeastern portion of the 400 block that will include flexible seating, added shade, a ship-themed play area, a play mound and interactive sidewalk games. The improvements are designed to activate the space, support nearby businesses and encourage community use. The parking configuration in the area will remain the same as the project uses the existing right of way.
The project reflects input from downtown businesses, the Downtown Development Authority Board, and the City of Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. It is part of a broader effort to enhance public spaces throughout downtown through improved functionality and added amenities.
Construction is scheduled to last until May 2. Business and sidewalk access will remain open, and long-term impacts to parking are not anticipated.
