Club plans fine arts show

The Grand Junction Brush and Palette Club has scheduled its 74th annual fine art show.

The show is set for Oct. 1 to Nov. 5 at the Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St. An opening reception and awards ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1.

The show is open to the public and will feature categories for professional, advanced and amateur entrants. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entrants and honorable mentions in each category and a grand prize to the entry deemed the best of show.

Art Bloom, a local professional artist and former art professor, will judge the show. He will lead a workshop on achieving dimension and texture with a palette knife set for 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 2.

Founded in 1930, the Grand Junction Brush and Palette Club promotes the arts through education and exhibitions as well as raising money for the Art Center. The club meets at 1 p.m. the third Thursday at the center.
