CMU instructor serving as studio artist in residence

Melody Brooke Safken, an instructor and illustrator at Colorado Mesa University, serves as the latest artist in residence at the Mesa County Libraries 970 West Studio in Grand Junction.

Safken will serve through Dec. 4 and hosts open studio hours 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 29 at the studio, located at Fifth Street and Ouray Avenue.

Safken specializes in paleontological art and creature design. He work has been used by businesses and museum reconstructions as well as for movies. She’s working on her own graphic novels titled “The Bearer Chronicles.”

She holds a bachelor’s degree from CMU and is working on a graduate degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
