Community Hospital welcomes first birth of 2020

Community Hospital in Grand Junction welcomed the first baby born there this year with an assortment of gifts.

The first baby of 2020 was a boy born at 4:23 a.m. Jan. 1. He weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces.

“This is always such a special time in labor and delivery,” said Marsha Bagby, director of the Birth Place at Community Hospital. “The Birth Place has been open just under four years now and to date, we have delivered over 1,800 babies since opening the new hospital in March 2016. We are extremely proud to give expectant parents a choice as to where to deliver their baby locally and are humbled by the overwhelming support we have received over the past few years.”

The Community Hospital Foundation presented mom and baby with a basket of donated baby items from Colorado Baby and the Community Hospital gift shop as well as a $100 gift certificate from Target, a one-hour newborn photo session from Tina Burke with Galasso Images, a $25 gift certificate from Junct’n Square Pizza, a free haircut from Crush Salon and a floral arrangement and balloon bouquet from Country Elegance Florist.

The labor and delivery unit at Community Hospital features eight labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites, each with a private jetted tub as well as a cesarean section operating room. Expectant parents also enjoy private parking and a private entrance with an elevator that takes them directly to the labor and delivery unit.
