Mesa County will continue offering building permits and inspection services in cities and towns in the county under renewed contracts.
Mesa County commissioners voted to renew contracts to offer building permits and conduct inspections in Grand Junction as well as Collbran, DeBeque, Fruita and Palisade.
While each city and town operates its own planning departments, the county handles permitting and inspections. The county building inspection team also can handle electrical and plumbing inspections.
“It makes it one-stop shop for developers and others doing construction or remodels,” said Pete Baier, Mesa County public works director.
Darrell Bay, chief building official for Mesa County, said the contract renewal affords consistency to residents and contractors. “It’s a service provided to the community.”
Mesa County began offering building permits and inspections in the City of Grand Junction in 1988. Other municipalities were added over the next four years. The contracts are renewed every two years.
