The head of a Grand Junction economic development organization believes a sales tax exemption for the aviation industry will help attract such firms to the area.
“This is a huge benefit to our economic development program as we attract and assist companies in the aviation industry who export their products out of the area,” said Ann Driggers, president and chief executive officer of the Grand Junction Economic Partnership.
The Grand Junction City Council voted to implement the sales tax exemption for aircraft components installed by Grand Junction companies. The exemption will take affect Aug. 20 and extend for three years before the council decides whether or not to further extend the exemption.
“Many other cities, counties and states have exempted this tax and our community is now able to compete for quality jobs in this valued industry,” Driggers said.
The aviation industry is among the sectors GJEP has targeted for recruitment and expansion efforts.
