Dog and music festival set for Sept. 16

An upcoming festival will offer participants an opportunity to enjoy music, food and activities — along with time spent with their dogs.

The Roice-Hurst Humane Society and Wag Resort have scheduled the third annual Wuffstock Dog & Music Festival for 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at Lincoln Park in Grand Junction. The festival will coincide will the Dog Days of Summer dog swim event set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Park swimming pool.

Well-behaved, leashed dogs will be welcome.

“We started Wuffstock three years ago because we wanted to create a space where people could spend time bonding with their pets while doing what people come to this valley to do — spend time outdoors, listen to our awesome local bands and eat and drink our local fare,” said Anna Stout, executive director of the Roice-Hurst Humane Society. “There are fewer and fewer opportunities for dog owners to get out and do that here.”

The festival will feature five local bands — Jack+Jill, the Thomasina Russell Band, Sum of Us, Flat Top Reed and Stray Grass. The festival also will feature food trucks as well as beer, wine and water.

Such as activities as face painting, a bump-n-jump, art activities and tie-dying are planned, as are dog-related demonstrations, pet-related vendors and contests. Roice-Hurst will bring adoptable dogs to the festival between noon and 4 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. No outside food or beverages will be allowed, although empty water bottles will be permitted.

Admission is $20. Children under 12 years old and dogs will be admitted at no charge. For more information, contact the Roice-Hurst Humane Society at 434-7337 or
