Entrants sought for wiener dog races

Entries are due no later than Aug. 17 for a benefit Dachshund race planned as part of a Grand Junction Rockies baseball game.

The Wienerschnitzel Wiener Dog Races are scheduled for between innings of the Aug. 19 game between the Rockies and Idaho Falls Chuckars at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction. The game is set to start at 6:40 p.m. Proceeds from the event will go to the Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

The top three finishers in the races will receive a total of more than $1,000 worth of cash and prizes, including four tickets to a Colorado Rockies home game and a night’s lodging in Denver. Shell gas cards, trophies, hats and t-shirts also will be awarded.
