Entries sought for wiener dog races

Entries will be accepted through 5 p.m. Aug. 12 for the annual Wienerschitzel wiener dog races scheduled for Aug. 17 as part of the Grand Junction Rockies home baseball game.

Dachshunds will race between innings in the game between the Grand Junction Rockies and Orem Owlz at Suplizio Field.

The owners of the top three finishers in the competition will receive a total of more than $1,000 in cash and prizes, including Shell gas cards, trophies, custom hats and t-shirts. The winner also will receive four tickets to a Colorado Rockies game in Denver.

Proceeds from the wiener dog races will go to the Roice Hurst Humane Society, a nonprofit shelter and adoption center in Grand Junction that cares for an average of 1,000 dogs and cats each year.

Entry forms and rules are available from Wienerschnitzel locations in Western Colorado and online at the website located at www.wienerschnitzelgj.com.
