An event is scheduled for Oct. 27 to celebrate the completion of renovations along North Avenue in Grand Junction.
The event is set for 5 to 6 p.m. on the northeast corner of North Avenue and 15th Street. Parking will be available in a lot north of the former Far East Restaurant.
The event will include food, prizes and games as well as a chance to meet Grand Junction Rockies and Colorado Mesa University mascots.
The renovations along North Avenue between 12th and 23rd streets included 8-foot-wide sidewalks separated from the travel lanes by landscaping, pedestrian lighting and median improvements. The project also included an underground conduit to accommodate an eventual broadband provider to bring high-speed Internet services to businesses along the corridor.
The $2 million project was funded by a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and $600,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. The balance of the project was funded with proceeds from the City of Grand Junction sales tax and transportation impact fees.
City staff continues to pursue grants to complete revitalization efforts along the remaining 3 1/4 miles of North Avenue.
