Family Health West in Fruita now offers three-dimensional mammography, one of the first health care providers in Colorado to do so.
Tomosynthesis mammography uses new technology to provide sharp breast tissue images that improve the ability to detect breast cancer as well as decreases the need for additional examinations. Digital images appear within seconds, offering a quicker examination.
“Tomosynthesis is the first of its kind in the Grand Valley and has been shown to significantly reduce the number of false positive mammograms and decrease the need for breast biopsies,” said Mark Francis, president and chief executive officer of Family Health West.
The mammography department has a radiology physician on site. That means in addition to screening and diagnostic mammography, most biopsies can be performed at Family Health West, Francis added.
Family Health West operates a hospital, outpatient care centers and assisted and skilled-care living facilities. For more information, visit www.familyhealthwest.org.
