Family Health West has named its 5-year-old Fruita hospital Colorado Canyons Hospital and Medical Center as part of efforts to continue to expand health care services in the Grand Valley.

“The new name reflects both the past and the future,” said Mark Francis, president and chief executive officer of Family Health West. “Over a half-century ago, we began a legacy of serving lower valley families with quality hometown care. We have continued that legacy by expanding to meet the growing health care needs of our community. As we look toward the future and plan for more growth, we have developed a brand new name and a culture of caring you’ll find nowhere else.”

Family Health West was founded in 1946 to operate a small hospital and provide health care services to what was at that time a rural population.

In 2009, Family Health West opened a $18.2 million hospital in Fruita, offering at the newly constructed facility emergency, laboratory, radiology and surgery services.

Family Health West also operates outpatient care centers offering a variety of health care services as well as assisted-living and skilled care centers.

In the past year alone, Family Health West has added women’s health care and podiatry to the list of available services. In May, Family Health West became one of the first health care providers in Colorado to offer three-dimensional mammography.

The organization expects to expand the 40,000 square foot Colorado Canyons Hospital and Medical Center in Fruita as well as provide health care services to the Orchard Mesa area in the Grand Valley.

“Family Health West is a trusted name in this valley,” Francis said. “It is the foundation for the variety of services we now provide and ensures that no matter what you or your loved ones need in terms of health care, we will be there to catch you when you fall.”
