Fashionable benefit planned

An annual fashion show will showcase hair styles, makeup  and apparel while raising awareness and money for a program for cancer survivors.

The Survive Fashion Show is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 743 Horizon Drive in Grand Junction. Tickets sell for $35. For tickets or more information, call 298-2015 or visit

Anewu Salon started the fashion show in 2010 to raise money for breast cancer research and in 2012 partnered with the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation to raise money for the St. Mary’s Cancer Survivorship Program.

“We know the end of treatment is not the end of the cancer experience,” said Carmen Moyer, executive director of the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation. “The Cancer Survivorship Program is an essential component in helping to ensure the long-term health and quality of life for cancer survivors on the Western Slope.”

In addition to hair and makeup created by Anewu stylists, the show will featured apparel from three local boutiques: Razzmatazz, Turbo and Zephyr.

Dr. Rebecca Glasser, a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast cancer reconstruction, once again will serve as emcee. Cancer survivors will serve as models. “It’s very touching to see these survivors have an opportunity to feel truly beautiful and strong once again,” Glasser said.

Bonnie Eaton, co-owner of Anewu Salon, said she’s pleased to participate. “We are honored to celebrate our local cancer survivors.”
