Kelly Johnston has joined the board of directors of the Freedom & Responsibility Education Enterprise Foundation, an organization that offers resources to teachers and students in Western Colorado to promote the understanding of economics, financial literacy and free enterprise.
Johnston brings to the FREE Foundation board experience as a business owner and adjunct accounting professor at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. She also appeared as a guest speaker at the FREE Foundation Western Slope Economic Leadership Conference in 2017.
A life-long resident of the Grand Valley, Johnston holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from CMU and a master’s degree in accounting from Regis University.
The FREE Foundation board also includes Phyllis Hunsinger, a retired educator who serves as president; Eileen Blanchard, a former business owner who serves as treasurer; and Ron Harrison, an education advisor and executive five president of Five Rings Financial.
The FREE Foundation offers teachers curriculum, materials, training and a pool of professionals willing to offer classroom instruction. The foundation offers students courses that include hands-on activities that demonstrate principles of free market economics. The foundation has scheduled its 2018 Western Slope Economic Leadership Conference for Nov. 13 and will offer high school teachers and students from across Western Colorado an opportunity to learn more about economics and economic leadership. Speakers will explain free market concepts and interact with students to promote their understanding.
