Fletcher elected chair of county commission

Mesa County Commissioner JJ Fletcher was elected chair of the Mesa County Board of Commissioners during the board’s administrative hearing Jan. 6, according to a Mesa County news release.

Fletcher succeeds Commissioner Cody Davis, who served as chair in 2025. Fletcher began his first term on the commission in 2025.

“It is a privilege to serve as chair of the Board of County Commissioners,” Fletcher said in the news release. “Alongside my fellow commissioners, I remain focused on advancing solutions that strengthen our community, encourage innovation and support long-term success for Mesa County.”

The chair of the Mesa County Commission is selected annually by the commissioners themselves at the board’s administrative hearing, with the position customarily rotating among members and decided by a majority vote of the board.

The position carries several formal responsibilities: presiding over all Board of County Commissioners meetings; signing official county orders; and representing the county in various capacities.

Fletcher currently represents Mesa County on several boards and committees, including the:

  • Behavioral Health Steering Committee.
  • Community Corrections Board.
  • Community Services Block Grant Tri-Partite Board (Health Department).
  • Criminal Justice Advisory Committee.
  • Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP).
  • Colorado Basin Water Round Table.
