Food vendors awarded for fare performance

The Cowboy and the Rose catering business in Grand Junction took top honors in an annual event that not only showcases the local food service industry, but also raises money for United Way of Mesa County.

The Cowboy and the Rose won the award for best overall taste at the Home Loan Taste of the Grand Valley at Colorado Mesa University.

Participants voted for their favorite exhibitors in a variety of categories.

The Cowboy and the Rose also won awards for best main dish and best decor.

Zoup won the award for best soup, side or snack. Four Winds Coffee & Tea won the award for best beverage. Gelu Italian Ice won the award for tastiest dessert.

A total of 21 exhibitors served food and beverage samples at the Home Loan Taste of the Grand Valley. The event also included cooking demonstrations and entertainment.

Proceeds from the Home Loan Taste of the Grand Valley add to the fund-raising campaign for United Way of Mesa County. Over the years, the event has raised a total of more than $370,000. Money raised in the campaign supports health and human services programs to build strong families, increase self-reliance and promote health.
