Free writing workshop set for Dec. 14

Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers has scheduled its next Grand Junction workshop for Dec. 14.

The free workshop is open to members and nonmembers alike and is set for 9 a.m. to noon at the Business Incubator Center at 2591 Legacy Way. For reservations or more information, send an email to Terri Benson at

Jason Evans, a writer and teacher, will lead a presentation on how to accurately and authentically represent African-American characters in novels. Evans will review the history of African-Americans in the United States and how that has affected their culture, expectations and representation in literature.

Evans holds bachelor’s degrees in history and Renaissance studies from the University of California Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in United States history from the University of Colorado at Denver. His debut novel, “The Gallowglass” was released in July.
