The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra will open its 48th season with two performances at Asteria Theatre: Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. Music Director Charles Latshaw will lead works by Healey Willan, Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius, with pianist Chaeyoung Park joining the orchestra as guest soloist.

“Grieg and Sibelius both understood how to make an orchestra sound like a landscape, and Chaeyoung Park is exactly the artist you want at the piano for that,” Latshaw said. “The Sibelius Second has one of the greatest endings in all of music. I cannot think of a better way to tell this community what Season 48 is going to be.”

Park won first prize at the 2022 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions, and in 2019 she became the first Korean woman to take first place at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, a win that led to her solo debut at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. She has appeared with the Israel Philharmonic, the Kansas City Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic, and in Colorado at the Bravo! Vail Music Festival. She holds three degrees from The Juilliard School.
