The City of Grand Junction will host a community celebration July 23 recognizing two historic milestones: the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood.

The free event, Grand Junction 250/150: A Main Street Celebration, will take place during Market on Main from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at th and Main streets.

The celebration is part of the statewide America 250–Colorado 150 commemoration and is intended to honor the city’s history while celebrating the people, partnerships and community spirit that have helped shape Grand Junction.

The anniversaries being recognized have special significance for Colorado. The state was admitted to the Union on Aug. 1, 1876, exactly 100 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, earning it the nickname the “Centennial State.” This year marks 150 years since Colorado achieved statehood, while communities across the country are commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.

Activities will include live music, games, a Touch-a-Truck display, historic photographs, opportunities to meet city leaders and community members, and free Wave drinks for the first 250 attendees while supplies last.

According to the city, the event is an opportunity for residents to reflect on the community’s past while looking ahead to its future together.

The July event is the first of two major local celebrations planned this year. Grand Junction’s America 250/Colorado 150 commemoration will continue Oct. 10 at Las Colonias Park with Water Lights at Night and a commemorative drone show.
