Grand Junction chamber executive honored for economic development efforts

DIANE SCHWENKE

Diane Schwenke, president and chief executive officer of the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce, was honored for her efforts promoting economic development.

The Grand Junction Economic Partnership presented Schwenke with the Joseph Prinster Leadership Award at its annual economic summit. The award recognizes individuals who’ve had a significant impact on economic development in Western Colorado.

Schwenke has served in her position with the chamber more than 30 years. She joined the chamber in 1989. She also was a finalist for a position with what was at the time the Mesa County Economic Development Commission, which later became the Grand Junction Economic Partnership. Prior to coming to Grand Junction, she worked in positions in chamber management and economic development in Colorado and Nebraska.

Schwenke recently announced her plans to retire later this year after the chamber board of directors hires a successor.
