Grand Junction chamber observes economic development week

The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce will once again observe National Economic Development Week with a series of events, including what are billed as virtual celebrations.

The International Economic Development Council, a membership organization for economic development professionals, created National Economic Development Week in 2016. The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce has led the local observance each year and won awards from the council each year for its efforts.

In addition to proclamations from Mesa County and the cities of Grand Junction and Fruita, the observance this year will include webinars presented by the Grand Junction, Fruita and Palisade chambers.

A free webinar scheduled for 2 p.m. May 7 will focus on how volunteering helps small businesses. The Zoom conference call will feature Matthew Breman, owner of Cranium 360; Julie Hinkson, executive director of United Way of Mesa County; and Joe Higgins, a board member of United Way.

Virtual celebrations will focus on economic development, economic developers, why people should support economic development and how people can become champions of economic development.
