Grand Junction woman named Toastmaster director of the year

Mary Watson

Mary Watson has received the Toastmaster International Area Director of the Year Award in recognition of her efforts in Western Colorado.

Watson — one of 43 Toastmaster directors in an area that includes Colorado, Wyoming and Western Nebraska — led two of her three base clubs to distinguished status with one club achieving the president’s distinguished and the other club achieving the select distinguished designations.

The Grand Junction woman also helped revive the Montrose Toastmasters to a club in good standing. She was a club coach for the Black Canyon Voices in Delta, which ended the year as a select distinguished club.

In addition, Watson conducted a youth leadership workshop and petitioned to proclaim June Toastmaster Month.

Watson achieved her Distinguished Toastmaster designation in 2018, a distinction achieved by less than
1 percent of the members of the Toastmasters International program.

Watson also received the Triple Crown Award for accomplishing three or more educational goals in one year. She accomplished eight. She’s also been involved in efforts to bring the Ignite Grand Junction and TEDx Grand Junction events to the community.
