Grand Valley Oncology has received the highest level of accreditation through a national quality assurance program.
The National Committee for Quality Assurance awarded the Patient Centered Specialty Practice accreditation.
Grand Valley Oncology, a facility operated by Community Hospital in Grand Junction, is one of just 31 cancer centers in the United States to receive the designation.
Dr. JoAnne Virgilio, a medical oncologist and medical director at Grand Valley Oncology, said the designation affirms efforts that started in 2014 to create the premier cancer center in Western Colorado. “For this incredible achievement to occur in just five short years is a tremendous honor and is extremely humbling.”
Chris Thomas, president and chief executive officer of Community Hospital, praised the staff and doctors at Grand Valley Oncology. “To say
they have worked tirelessly to earn this designation is an understatement. Quality and patient safety are paramount in the work we do, and this level of accreditation in oncology is what patients deserve.”
Grand Valley Oncology received the Patient Centered Medical Home accreditation last year. The Patient Centered Specialty Practice accreditation recognizes additional efforts to deliver high-quality, patient care through proactive coordination and sharing information.
