A retail delivery service now offers same-day grocery delivery in the Grand Valley.
Instacart offers delivery in Grand Junction and Palisade as well as the Appleton, Clifton, Fruitvale, Orchard Mesa and Redlands areas.
Delivery is available from Natural Grocers, Safeway and Sprouts Farmers Market.
Instacart expects to hire more than 100 of what the company terms “shoppers” as part of its expansion into the market. Since its inception in 2012, Instacart has expanded operations to more than 200 markets in North America.
“Over the past year, we’ve seen incredible demand in the Grand Junction area,” said Sean Twersky, senior regional manager with Instacart. “Launching in Grand Junction gives us an opportunity to expand service in the Colorado market. We’re also excited to build a world-class shopper community where we can offer fun and flexible income-earning opportunities for our shoppers, who ultimately deliver this amazing service to the community.”
To order grocery delivery, customers go online to the website at www.instacart.com or open the Instacart application on their smart phones. They select a city and store, add items to a virtual shopping cart, choose a delivery window that ranges from one hour up to five days in advance and then check out. An Instacart shopper accepts the order on his or her smart phone, uses an app to guide them in shopping and then delivers the groceries.
For orders of $35 or more, a delivery fee of $5.99 is charged. Customers also can sign up for an Instacart membership offering free same-day deliveries on orders of $35 or more. After a free trial period, membership costs $14.99 a month or $149 a year. For more information, visit www.instacart.com
