A home health care agency based in Grand Junction has expanded in opening a branch in Glenwood Springs.
The Home Care of the Grand Valley branch in Glenwood Springs is located in a 100-year-old home at 929 Cooper Ave., Suite 2, that previously housed Columbine Home Health.
Hans Lutgring, former executive director of Columbine Home Health, and his staff, were hired to serve patients from Parachute to Aspen to Marble. Columbine Home Health closed in December after 20 years in operation. “The silver lining is that we are so familiar with Home Care of the Grand Valley. We know their ethics and what a good job they do,” Lutgring said. “The sky’s the limit how much we grow.”
Sue Brown, co-founder and executive director of Home Care of the Grand Valley, said home health care often offers a better choice for patients than services provided in other settings. “Home health care is the least expensive and most desirable of health care options in many, many situations.”
The agency offers a range of medical and non-medical services provided by nurses, therapists, nursing assistants and social workers working under the supervision of a physician.
Lutgring said it’s more effective to show patients in their homes the changes needed to regain health and remain safe than try to develop new habits in a hospital. “That’s our expertise. The art of home health care is having a team that can come in with highly skilled eyes and help people make some changes to make their environment more safe.”
The Home Care of the Grand Valley branch in Glenwood Springs employs a total of six full and part-time registered nurses, a total of four full and part-time physical therapists, two certified nursing assistants and an occupational therapist.
The agency expects to hire additional therapists, nursing assistants and personal care providers to meet demand for services, said Charleen Raaum, director of clinical services. “We’re growing our team so we can expand services throughout the region.”
Home Care of the Grand Valley received the Home Care Elite award in November, ranking among the top-performing health care agencies nationally. The agency was the only home health care provider in Colorado to receive a Pinnacol Circle of Safety Award in 2016.
