A Western Colorado organization that provides a range of services to people facing serious illness and grief has been recognized as one of the top health care organizations for which to work in the United States.

HopeWest ranked 30th in the Modern Healthcare Top 100 Best Places to Work in Health Care for 2015. HopeWest also ranked 15th in the category for health care providers, the highest ranking for any hospice organization.

“The commitment we have to our mission of helping patients and families across the Western Slope is also what drives our dedication to our employees and to creating a great place to work,” said Christy Whitney, president and chief executive officer of HopeWest. “It is very inspiring to be associated with other dynamic health care companies across the nation.”

Modern Healthcare, a national trade publication, honors workplaces that empower employees to provide patients and customers with the best care, products and services.

The ranking is based in large part on the results of employee surveys. HopeWest employs 285 people and received high marks for its flexible hours and telecommuting options, wellness and prevention incentives, educational support and ongoing training, workplace fitness facilities and paid time off for community work.

HopeWest was included in a supplement published as part of the Oct. 19 issue of Modern Healthcare.

“It’s wonderful that we were recognized for being a best place to work,” said Beth Brown, clinical manager of transitions and living with cancer programs and a long-time employee of HopeWest.

“I get to work with really great people, and I truly love that we’re all working towards the same mission,” Brown added. “HopeWest is a very caring place and allows everyone to have creativity in the work that they do. I’ve been here for 21 years and have stayed because there is so much opportunity to grow, learn and be a part of something positive.”

Based in Grand Junction, HopeWest operates an in-patient hospice center and  also provides hospice, palliative care and grief support services in a region of Western Colorado that includes Mesa as well as Delta, Montrose, Ouray and Rio Blanco counties.
