Community Hospital in Grand Junction donated 75 frozen turkeys and $5,000 in grocery gift cards to the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies.
Chris Thomas, president and chief executive officer of the hospital, said the donation was presented in honor of the staff and medical providers. “Helping to feed individuals and families in need supports Community Hospital’s mission of improving the health and wellness of our community,” Thomas said.
“In this season of giving, we really wanted to honor our staff and medical providers with a donation made in their honor that would have a significant impact in our community.” Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies, an arm of Food Bank of the Rockies, serves Northwestern Colorado, including the Grand Valley.
The food bank distributes more than 5 million pounds of food and other essentials to people in need. “Hunger is a very real issue on the Western Slope,” said Starlene Collins, Western Slope branch manager for the Food Bank of the Rockies.
