Carma Brown, manager of the personal insurance department at Home Loan Insurance in Grand Junction, has earned Nationwide recognition for her community service.

Brown received the 2016 regional community service award from Nationwide Insurance. Brown was selected from among Nationwide affiliate agents in a six-state region.

Brown will be featured on a wall of fame at Nationwide Insurance corporate offices in Ohio. In addition, Nationwide will donate $500 to the Challenger Baseball program Brown started in Mesa County 17 years ago. The program pairs children and young adults ages 8 to 21 with physical or mental disabilities with “buddies” who assist them in playing baseball. Those buddies include local high school and Colorado Mesa University players and participants in the annual Junior College Baseball World Series. The program has grown to eight teams with a total of 80 players.

The Challenger Baseball program has been selected to participate in the 2016 Little League World Series in August and play an exhibition game live on cable television. Home Loan Insurance has donated $5,000 to help fund the trip.

Brown also has received the Meritorious Service Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Brown manages a staff of four employees serving customers with auto, life, home and other insurance products. For more information, visit
