Landscape artist featured at framing business

Frame Depot in Grand Junction will showcase the work of Art Blom through November at its artist of the month.

Blom is best known as a landscape artist who uses oil paints and a pallet knife. But Blom also enjoys acrylic painting, drawing, fabrication, jewelry design and sculpturing. He oversaw a sculpture program at a university in Michigan before moving to Western Colorado in the 1990s to pursue his artwork full-time.

“The Western U.S. provides imagery and stimuli for my work. Yet, I am further intrigued by the paint and the application of applying it,” Blom said. “I seek for ways to exploit the physical changes that happen with paint. Harmonies of color, paint and texture are delights to the eye. As color highlights a mountain top or sparkles a breeze across the water, the same splashes of color and texture which make a scene seem so real can also excite and animate a painted surface.”

An opening reception with wine and refreshments is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 7 at the custom framing business, which is located at 529 Bogart Lane. For additional information, call 245-6999 or visit www.framedepotgj.com.
