A man involved in efforts to turn a California city into a technology hub will be the featured speaker at an upcoming event in Grand Junction.

The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled what’s billed as a leadership summit for 11:30 a.m. April 18 at Two Rivers Convention Center, 159 Main St.

Admission, which includes lunch, is $25 in advance and $35 at the door. For tickets or additional information, contact the chamber at 242-3214 or www.gjchamber.org.

The summit will feature Jake Soberal, co-founder of Bitwise Industries, a company in Fresno, Calif., that offers low-cost space for small teams and individuals, contract tech projects and instruction in coding and other technical skills. Its headquarters contains offices for more than two dozen tech firms.

Soberal and co-founder Irma Olguin Jr. teamed up to promote a tech sector in an area with an agricultural economy and no nearby major research universities.

In Grand Junction, Soberal will discuss his efforts and his motivation to become involved in efforts to promote growth and change in his community.
