The central branch of the Mesa County Library in downtown Grand Junction soon will relocate to temporary quarters to accommodate an expansion and improvement project.
Materials, equipment and operations at the central branch of the library at 530 Grand Ave. will move to a building at 655 N. First St. that formerly housed Ashley Furniture.
To accommodate the move, the central branch won’t open until noon July 30 to Aug. 2. The branch will close operations on Grand Avenue Aug. 4. The branch is scheduled to open for regular hours at its temporary location on First Street starting Aug. 13.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this summer on an expansion and improvement project at the central branch that will add 9,000 square feet and renovate the interior of the building. The project should be completed by spring 2013.
During the move, library patrons are encouraged to use other branch locations in Clifton, Collbran, DeBeque, Fruita, Gateway, Orchard Mesa and Palisade.
Patrons also may place holds on library materials and have them sent to branch locations. No overdue fines will be assessed on materials due between July 30 and Aug. 31.
