Mesa County Libraries offers adults an opportunity to earn high school diplomas while also receiving career training.
“Earning a high school diploma is a life-changing achievement,” said James Price, head of literacy services for Mesa County Libraries. “By offering Career Online High School, we’re empowering Mesa County residents to seek new opportunities and transform their lives.”
The Career Online High School (COHS) program is designed to bring adults back into the education system and prepare them for additional career education or positions in the work force.
With assistance from the Colorado State Library, Mesa County Libraries will award up to 30 scholarships for COHS to qualified learners. Prospective students must complete an assessment procedure to determine their suitability for the COHS program.
More information about the program is available by calling 683-2443, sending an e-mail to email@example.com or visiting the website at mesacountylibraries.org/cohs.
Career Online High School pairs students with academic coaches who help them develop an individual career plan, offer ongoing guidance and encouragement, evaluate performance and connect students with resources needed to demonstrate mastery of the course material. Classes are supported by board-certified instructors, and students have around-the-clock access to the online learning platform.
Coursework begins in one of eight career fields, including child care and education, commercial driving, food and hospitality, homeland security, office management, protection officer and retail customer service. General career preparation also is offered. In addition, courses cover core academic subjects.
Students have up to 18 months to complete the program, although some can graduate in as few as six months by transferring previously earned high school credits.
Career Online High School is a product of Gale, which provides libraries with a variety of learning resources. COHS is accredited by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, one of the largest accreditation organizations in the United States.
