Lodging taxes also on the rise

A monthly measure of hotel and motel stays in Grand Junction continues to reflect increasing business for the local hospitality sector.

According to the Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau report for February, $60,367 in lodging taxes were collected. That’s a 2.2 percent increase over the $59,053 in collections reported for the same month in 2014.

Since lodging tax reports lag a month behind, February reports reflect hotel and motel stays in January.

For the first two months of 2015, a total of $124,620 in lodging taxes have been collected. That’s a 3.8 percent increase over the same span in 2014.

Other numbers the VCB tracks on a monthly basis also increased in February.

A total of 31,326 unique visits to www.visitgrandjunction.com were reported, a 48 percent increase. Meanwhile, 474 visitors were counted at the Grand Junction Visitor Center, an 18.2 percent increase.
