Martin Mortuary joins in effort to lay veterans to rest

Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction will participate in a program offering memorial services to veterans whose remains have been unclaimed.

A memorial service is set for 9 a.m. March 21 at Martin Mortuary at 550 North Ave., followed by internment with military honors at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado at 2830 Riverside Parkway. The events are open to the public.

The cremated remains of 26 veterans  and two of their spouses will be interred under the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program and Missing in America Project.

Richard Lewis, general manager of Martin Mortuary, said the effort ensures veterans who are homeless, indigent and have no family receive a military service.

Martin Mortuary is a member of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers. For more information, visit www.DignityMemorial.com.
