Mesa County RSVP has scheduled an event to recognize the 440 volunteers who’ve worked with the organization in providing a total of more than 72,000 hours of services over the past year.
The volunteer appreciation event is set for noon April 8 at Two Rivers Convention Center, 159 Main St. in Grand Junction. The event will include lunch, door prizes and a disc jockey and dance floor. The theme for the event is “At the Hop,” and participants are encouraged to wear 1950s style clothing. RSVP volunteers may attend at no charge. Admission is $18 for others. Mesa County RSVP works with 70 organizations in Mesa County in providing volunteers ages 55 and over for a variety of tasks. Among other things, RSVP volunteers help local nonprofits groups educate and mentor children; maintain local trails; provide food assistance for those in need; and repair homes for the elderly, disabled, and low-income individuals. The more than 72,000 hours of service over the past year is valued at more than $1.8 million.
