A Grand Junction meeting will offer information to business owners and individuals about joining a solar energy cooperative in Mesa County.
Solar United Neighbors has scheduled the meeting for 6 to 8 p.m. March 15 at Kannah Creek Brewing Company, 1960 N. 12th St. The event is open to the public at no charge. For reservations, log on to the website at www.solarunitedneighbors.org/event/mesa-county-meet-greet.
A nonprofit organization, Solar United Neighbors strives to expand access to solar energy by educating Colorado residents, helping them organize group solar energy installations and promoting solar energy policies.
Members of solar co-ops select a single company to complete installations. They then have the option to purchase solar energy panels based on group rates and take advantage of the savings.
Businesses and people can join a co-op for free, but membership doesn’t constitute a commitment to purchase panels. Once a group is large enough, Solar United Neighbors helps a co-op solicit competitive bids from area installers.
The first solar co-op in Mesa County helped 68 families install solar panels on their homes.
