Construction is expected to soon begin on a new workforce center in Mesa County.
The Mesa County Commissioners approved a $5.4 million contract with FCI Constructors to build a 32,000 square foot facility.
The workforce center, a collaborative effort of the State of Colorado and Hilltop Community Resources, offers a range of services in helping job hunters find work, businesses find employees and training the work force.
The new center will be constructed on at 519 29 1/2 Road on property located next to the Community Services Building, offering more convenient access to other county services. “Having multiple programs in a civic campus location is efficient and more convenient for everyone involved,” said Mesa County Administrator Chantal Unfug.
The new workforce center will replace an aging and overcrowded facility located at 2897 North Ave.
Given the completion of the 29 Road bypass and development along North Avenue, the owner of that property is expected to eventually sell it for commercial development.
“Constructing a new facility is a smart investment of county capital dollars,” said County Commissioner Janet Rowland. “The additional space, better layout and essential technology will provide more and better services to job seekers and local businesses.”
