Nominations sought for teacher awards

Barnes & Noble in Grand Junction has once again joined in a national contest recognizing teachers.

A separate promotion for educators and administrators also will continue through Jan. 17 with discounts on merchandise and a sweepstakes in which the winner will receive a maker space for his or her school.

Nominations will be accepted through March 1 for the My Favorite Teacher Contest. Middle and high school students may nominate teachers by writing essays, thank-you letters or poems that explain why they appreciate or admire a teacher or how a teacher has influenced their lives. Entries will be judged on the qualities of the nominees, sincerity of the students and quality of the writing.

Barnes & Noble will present awards to winning teachers, students and schools on local, regional and national levels. Regional winners will receive a $500 gift card and Nook. Barnes & Noble will award $5,000 to the winning teacher and his or her school. The student who writes the nationally winning entry also will receive a $500 gift card and Nook.
