Nearly 40 philanthropic organizations are expected to participate in a fund-raising event at the Mesa Mall in Grand Junction.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 near the food court in the mall, located at 2424 U.S. Highway 6 & 50.
Representatives from participating organizations will be on hand at a booth to answer questions and help visitors make Colorado Gives Day donations online to the charities of their choice. Visitors to the table will be able to enter a drawing for a gift basket.
Colorado Gives Day is a 24-hour period designed to encourage donors to give where they live by making online donations to the hundreds of charities featured on the website at www.ColoradoGives.org. Each participating charity that receives donations online is eligible to receive part of an incentive fund that increases the value of each donation.
In Mesa County, a group of nonprofit organizations joined in 2012 in a collaborative fund-raising effort. That effort since has grown into Grand Valley Gives and 39 organizations that provide a wide range of services.
Rather than compete for funds on Colorado Gives Day, the collaboration seeks to raise awareness for all nonprofits in the community, local giving and the importance of nonprofits working together to provide needed services. In 2018, the effort collectively raised more than $200,000. The goal for 2019 is $225,000.
