Owners of tutoring service join in Harvard workshop

The owners of Essentials in Learning, a Grand Junction tutoring and academic coaching service, participated in workshop conducted at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Anna Goetz and Sheri Vandervelde joined in a workshop titled “Executive Function and Metacognition: Teaching Students to Learn How to Learn.”

Goetz said the workshop will help them help students learn, including those diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and those with executive skills deficits. “This Harvard workshop is perfect for expanding and enforcing our existing skills and learning new methods.”

Essentials in Learning helps students in first grade through college who’re struggling in school or want to strengthen their academic skills. The business offers assistance with not only the core areas of math, reading and writing, but also goal setting, organization and time management.
