Palisade open house to kick off highway planning process

An upcoming open house will kick off what’s expected to be a community effort to plan changes to the U.S. Highway 6 corridor in Palisade.

The open house is set for 5 to 7 p.m. April 16 in the Palisade Civic Center located at 711 Iowa Ave.

The Palisade Planning Commission has scheduled the open house to involve the public in proposed changes to U.S. Highway 6 between Palisade High School and the Colorado River.

Participants at the open house will be asked to identify what they consider needed improvements to the highway corridor related to safety and function, including changes to accommodate not only motorists, but also pedestrians and bicyclists. Changes to Highway 6 as they relate to the entry to Palisade also will be discussed.

Incorporating public comments, a planning study will identify issues and recommend potential short- and long-term changes to the highway.

The Palisade Planning Commission has conducted several focus group meetings and expects to continue the involve the public through open houses and surveys.

Updates on the plan will be posted online at the Town of Palisade Web site at
