The works of a Grand Valley photographer are on display at the Family Health West hospital in Fruita as part of the Art for Health competition.
Colleen Edwards won the latest competition judged by the Fruita Arts and Culture Board. Her photographs will remain on display in the hospital for the next three months.
A reception is set for 4:30 to 6 p.m. June 14 in the hospital lobby.
“We are thrilled to have Colleen’s work in the hospital,” said Angelina Salazar, director of Community Relations for Family Health West. “Our patients, our staff, their families and friends all have the opportunity to not only view what our local artists are doing, they get to experience an environment that promotes healing.”
The Art for Health competition began in 2010 and features new artwork in the hospital twice a year.
Edwards has lived in the Grand Valley for more than 40 years and has pursued photography since she was a teen-ager.
“My first camera was a 110, and later my sister and dad put a digital camera in my hands. And I have gone crazy ever sense,” Edwards said. “I switched to a digital a few years back, and never travel anywhere without my camera.”
Edwards said she strives to make people smile. “When looking at my photographs, there is a calming sensation, peaceful feeling and a sense of relaxation that happens.”
