A pop-up picnic promoting the purchase of food and other agricultural products grown and raised in Colorado has been scheduled as part of the Palisade Peach Festival.
A separate contest that runs through Aug. 31 challenges participants to complete local challenges as they learn more about Colorado produce.
The Palisade Peach Festival includes activities and events through Aug. 15, including the Peach Festival in Riverbend Park from 4 to 10 p.m. Aug. 14 as well as 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 15.
The Choose Colorado pop-up picnic will offer a sampling of locally grown vegetables and fruits. Farmers and chefs also will offer information about local produce and tips for using produce for picnics and other meals. A crop calendar, recipe cards and other printed materials will be available.
Meanwhile, he Choose Colorado Produce Challenge includes local challenges and produce trivia. To enter the contest, participants upload photos of their completed challenge.
Challenges include taking a selfie with a local grower, cooking a farm-to-fork meal with Colorado agricultural products and tasting a Palisade peach.
All approved submissions will be put to a public vote through August. Two winners will be selected — one for completing the most challenges and the other for submitting the challenge photo that received the most votes. Each winner will receive a $500 Safeway gift card.
The picnics and contest are part of the Colorado Proud program promoting the state agricultural industry.
