Program aims to help young artists with business side of art

BAM! (Business Art Mentorship Youth Program) is launching BAM! Entrepreneurs (BE): From Idea to Income, a new entrepreneurship program partnership with the Business Incubator. The program intends to equip young artists with the real-world skills, mentorship and resources needed to build sustainable creative businesses.

The program will run on Saturdays from July 25 to Sept. 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Business Incubator Center, 2591 Legacy Way in Grand Junction.

Participants explore the steps involved in developing a creative idea into a potential business or source of income. They also are introduced to the Business Incubator Center and learn about the resources and support available to entrepreneurs.

Open to youth ages 14 to 21 years old, BAM! Entrepreneurs is a program in which participants develop, market and sell original creative products, such as paintings, prints, sculptures, stickers, gift items and other handmade goods.

The program will provide the following:

  • Real entrepreneurial skills, taught through 10 hands-on workshops that cover branding, pricing, presentation, commissions and contracts.
  • Real market access, including the opportunity to build and sell a product line through local businesses and online platforms.
  • Real-world sales opportunities with participants learning how to bring their products to market and generate income from their work.
