Program raises funds for advocacy group

A program offers participants a chance to shop at local retailers while raising money for an organization that provides a voice in court to children who are the victim of abuse or neglect.

Under the program, participating retailers sell gift cards to  Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Mesa County at a discount. CASA in turn sells the cards for full face value, keeping the difference as revenue.

A number of retailers participate in what’s dubbed the “scrip” program, including the Gap, JC Penney, Kohl’s, Target and others.
