Dick Thompson, chief executive officer and executive director of the Quality Health Network of Western Colorado based in Grand Junction, has received recognition for his role in a creating a consortium of health information exchanges.
The Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative presented Thompson with the Chairman Award at an annual conference in Atlanta.
Dan Porreca, chairman of the SHIEC board, created the award to honor Thompson. “I don’t think it is a stretch to say that without Dick’s vision, leadership and passion, SHIEC would not exist as it does today,” Porreca said.
Thompson and his assistant, Julie Susemihl, organized meetings among health information exchanges across the country to create the collaboration that became the SHIEC. Thompson served as the first board chairman of the organization and led efforts to incorporate the group and hire staff. The more than 70 member exchanges of the SHIEC now provide health information services to more than 250 million people across the United States.
